Bentley OpenUtilities CONNECT Edition Help

Edit and Design Processes

Bentley OpenUtilities Designer provides a complete set of tools for each stage of the design process. Although design procedures can vary from company to company, the following steps describe a typical way of creating a design using Bentley OpenUtilities Designer:

  1. Create a record of the design using the New Design dialog box.
  2. Lay out the required work locations using the Design Assistant.
  3. Assign the required facilities and compatible units using the Features Catalog and the Units Catalog.
  4. Optimize the design.
  5. Generate a bill of materials, cost estimate, and other reports.
  6. Produce a work sketch.
  7. Attach the design to the work request.
  8. Mark the work request to indicate that design work is complete, which queues the work request and design for approval.
  9. Submit the approved work request and design for construction.
  10. Close out the work request when the job is finished.
A typical workflow for Bentley Expert Designer Communications design editing is the following:
  1. Transition the work request to indicate the design is in progress. The transition action automatically creates and attaches a design to the work request.
  2. Lay out the design.
  3. Optimize the design.
  4. Generate a bill of materials, cost estimate, and other reports.
  5. Produce a work sketch.
  6. Mark the work request to indicate that design work is complete, which queues the work request and design for approval.
  7. Submit the approved work request and design for construction.
  8. Close out the work request when the job is finished.
